Illana Jacqueline, a 23-year-old professional author and journalist, was a member of the inaugural class of the Canon Solutions America Future Authors Project in 2006.  She will be sharing her experiences with the newest Future Authors at the unveiling and book signing of their book,Pure Gold Written in Graphite.  The unveiling takes place Friday, November 1st from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Boca Raton Public Library at Spanish River, 1501 NW Spanish River Blvd in Boca Raton.

Future Authors are Palm Beach County middle and high school students who participated in a free eight-day summer workshop sponsored by Boca Raton-based Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A.

“I learned so much in those short two weeks that I’ve carried with me throughout my career,” said Jacqueline, who has written for Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan Magazine, AOL, and the Sun Sentinel.

Nearly 400 students have benefited from this unique private-public partnership between Canon Solutions America and the School District of Palm Beach County, Florida. The program was created to help students learn about the processes of writing, editing, and digitally publishing books. Published authors who donated their time to share experiences and writing tips included Robert Forbes, a children’s author and publisher of Forbes Lifestyle; Nicole Barker, the author of the young adult novel, Dancing with Ana; and poet Dwight Stewart.

Sponsors, whose support allows three licensed language arts teachers to be hired to teach the workshop, include AutoNation, the Lawrence Sanders Foundation, and Xplor, an educational and networking association serving users and suppliers of document technologies.

Nearly 50 students will be joined by their family and friends.  Speakers will include City of Boca Raton Mayor Susan Whelchel, Assistant Superintendent of the School District of Palm Beach County Keith Oswald, and Eric Hawkins, director of marketing for Canon Solutions America Print Production Solutions.
