Oakland Raider Walford to Give Backpacks to Rosenwald ES Students
SOUTH BAY – Students at Rosenwald Elementary School are ready to “Beat the Summer Slide,” and NFL tight end Clive Walford will there to encourage them and provide a backpack to every student during an event at the school Friday.

Walford, who currently plays for the Oakland Raiders and played for the University of Miami, is a former Rosenwald Elementary School student.

The backpacks he is providing will be filled with books and materials to help engage students in reading and educational activities throughout the summer.

WHEN: Friday, May 26 at 9 a.m.

WHERE: Rosenwald Elementary School
1321 Martin L. King Jr. Blvd.
South Bay

Studies show that students, particularly from low-income families, who don’t keep up on their studies can lose as much as two grade levels of advances over the summer.

Friday’s backpack giveaway is the culminating event of the school’s week-long push to encourage summer learning. The students will enjoy food, slides, bounce houses and other outdoor activities.
